BYD and Denza Making Bold Moves in the EV Market While Honda Launches New Brand 'Ye'

BYD has made a prominent splash with its unveiling of a new electric SUV concept called the Super 3, designed with an 'interstellar chariot' motif, and the announcement of three other models which include the flagship Bao 8 SUV, and the Super 9 convertible sportscar, set for their debut at Auto China 2024 Additionally, the sub-brand Fang Cheng Bao released its crossover SUV model, the Bao 8, during an event in Shenzhen, alongside the innovative Super 3 and Super 9 concepts These new models – with the Bao 3 (Super 3) starting at around $27,500 – are aimed to help BYD reengineer the automotive landscape, promising over 20% sales growth in diverse segments such as low-cost, luxury, and sports cars, supported by the brand's exclusive DMO platform. The joint venture between BYD and Mercedes, known as Denza, also revealed the Z9 GT, an electric shooting brake equipped with three electric motors, generating a formidable 952 hp Surpassing the likes of Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo and Taycan Sport Turismo in size, the Z9 GT boasts its own unique design elements and a Blade battery pack, as it anticipates a global roll-out starting with Europe the next year Meanwhile, Honda has intensified its EV push by launching a new brand named 'Ye' in China, complete with distinctive branding. With their first two models, the Ye P7 and Ye S7 crossovers, set for release by the end of the year, Honda is aiming for electric models to make up all its regional sales by 2035, expanding its portfolio with six Ye vehicles by 2027.
