Environmental Impacts of Volvo's New Electric Vehicle
In its comprehensive life cycle assessment, Volvo has revealed that their forthcoming compact EV, the EX30, boasts the smallest carbon footprint across its electric vehicle range The study analyzed two models, featuring either a 69-kwh lithium nickel cobalt manganese oxide (NMC) battery or a 51-kwh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery The total lifetime CO2 emissions were estimated at 36,000 kg for the NMC battery variant and significantly lower at 31,000 kg for the LFP version, with the latter's impact specifically halved for markets in Europe and China. Unfortunately for the U.S market, Volvo has not planned to supply the more eco-friendly LFP battery option.
